Chapter 1

"Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not. But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." II Corinthians 4:1-4

In a day and time when attacks on the truth and the propagation of false doctrine is tolerated, and in a few cases even commended, some would dare to question the motives behind such a writing. Today it seems doctrinal controversies are avoided and doctrinal errors are overlooked in the name of "Christian unity." Although this is not a study covering the subject of unity, suffice it to say the only way real "Christian unity" can be accomplished is to draw some attention to some already existing divisions! Note Paul's words:

"...MARK them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and AVOID them."  Romans 16:17

False teachings from the Bible cannot be ignored. Those who handle the word of God deceitfully (whether intentional or unintentional) are to be renounced, marked and avoided.

The Bible says of the last days, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Please understand that this study is not meant to be a personal attack on anyone. It is meant to be a "manifestation of the truth" concerning the differences between the true gospel of Jesus Christ and "another gospel" - a perverted gospel.

this is a warning about this false plan of salvation - and is written in hopes that those who are now victims of having their minds "blinded" and the light of the glorious gospel of Christ hid from them will see that eternal life is the free gift of God and can only be received through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).

"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:6-9

The abounding confusion in "religion" has discouraged many from attending any church at all. There are so many different beliefs that many are left wondering, "How do I know what fo believe?" The factors behind this confusion are "seducing spirits", "doctrines of devils", Satan himself (of course), and man's refusal to simply believe the plain and simple gospel of Jesus Christ. The problem is many want to have part in their own salvation. But we are all "sinners" and therefore we cannot be "saviors" to other sinners, and we surely cannot save ourselves.

"Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners...." I Timothy 1:15

"For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved" John 3:17

Being saved is as simple as this: God has already provided the SAVIOR, and all you must do is provide yourself as the SINNER! Jesus Christ died in your place, then gloriously rose again and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. He lives forever and only He has eternal life to give. He did not come to help you get saved; He came to save you!

When Paul the apostle says in Galatians 1:6-9 that the Galatians were moved away from the "grace of Christ" unto "another gospel: which is not another", what exactly is he saying? If it is not another gospel then it must contain the same three elements of the gospel we preach: the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, according to the scriptures. Instead of just preaching this message as the power of God unto salvation (Rom. 1:16), Paul says "there be some that....would pervert the gospel of Christ." That is, they would add something to this message which would change the importance of the message and would destroy the effect. Therefore, while they indeed preach the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, they do not preach this as the only means of a sinner's salvation. They add works or a specific work which completely robs the gospel of its saving power. How they hinder the sinner from believing only on Jesus Christ only for salvation. He instead believes on Christ plus the specific work detailed in "the perverted gospel"! The specific work in this case is "WATER BAPTISM."

"But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God." Acts 20:24

The word "gospel" means "glad tidings" or "good news." The gospel of the grace of God, therefore, is the very message of salvation. Through the sinner's belief in the death of Christ for his sins, Christ's burial, and glorious resurrection, the sinner is saved simply by the grace of God.

Notice the scripture says "NOT OF WORKS"! God's grace cannot co-exist with works.

If someone is believing the gospel and also trusting in their "water baptism" as a means of salvation - THEY ARE NOT REALLY BELIEVING THE GOSPEL! They are believing another gospel, a perverted gospel. Through their trust in their water baptism (a work), they have canceled out the grace of God. Where there is no GRACE in a person's salvation experience, there's not a trace of salvation in their experience!

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." Romans 5:1,2

Chapter 4

The Bible is the book of all ages. Although all the Bible is for us today, not all the Bible is to us! Therefore someone can take scriptures out of context and use them to teach any heresy that is being preached today. All heresy is based upon some Bible scripture which has been pulled out of its context and misused. Those who teach "baptismal regeneration" are no exception to this practice. The "god of this world" (Satan) has blinded their minds from the light of the glorious gospel, and just as he did while tempting Christ (Mat. 4:6), he is quoting scripture to do it!

Here are some of the scriptures used to teach "water baptismal regeneration" returned to their proper context:

I. Acts 2:38 - "Then Peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

This is the prominent verse which is used to teach that a person must be baptized in water to receive the remission of sins. At first glance, one would readily admit that this is what the verse is saying. This is because the scripture has been removed from its context. Please note the following truths:

     1. The nation of Israel is God's chosen nation (Deut. 7:6; Psa. 33:12).

     2. While He began dealing with individuals such as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the promises abd prophecies were concerning Israel as a NATION (Deut. 14:2).

     3. The message of Acts 2 is a result of Israel's rejection of the Lord Jesus as their Messiah. Notice the verse reads, "Then Peter said unto THEM...." If Acts 2:38 is to be understood correctly, it must be recognized to whom Peter is talking. He is talking to Israel as a NATION!

     4. The message is based upon Israel's rejection and crucifixion of Christ - "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom YE have crucified, both Lord and Christ".

     5. Acts 2:38 is in response to Acts 2:37 - Watch....

     Not only does the context of Acts 2 nullify the heresy of "water baptism" for an individual sinner's salvation, but a comparison of Acts 2 with Acts 10 completely destroys it. In Acts 10 the same preacher is preaching, only instead of preaching to Israel, he is preaching to Gentiles. Instead of charging them with the "slaying" of the Christ as he did Israel (Acts 2:23,36), he is pointing to Christ's death, burial, and resurrection (Acts 10:39,40) and how God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34-36). The condition for "remission of sins" is NOT water baptism, rather it is "believing" in Jesus Christ (Acts 10:43). The gift of the Holy Ghost is given before they are baptized, which is in direct contrast to when Peter was preaching to the NATION of Israel (Acts 10:47,48 vs. Acts 2:38)! The gospel of the grace of God is to "whosoever" and deals with Christ's first coming (His death for our sins, His burial, and His resurrection), and the command is to believe upon Jesus Christ (Acts 10:43; 16:31). The message of Acts 2 is to Israel, based upon their crucifying the Christ; the context is the second coming (16-21,30,34,35), and the conditions are for their repentance as a NATION.

II. Mark 16:16 - "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be damned."

Here is another scripture which is "yanked" out of it's context to get the sinner to trust his obedience in "water baptism" to be saved. In the following verses we note:

This passage is promptly ignored by those who teach "water baptism" as the means of salvation based upon Mark 16:16. What hypocrisy!

One need only to glance at the verse and see plainly the emphasis is placed upon believing (which if a person will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, they will be saved according to Acts 16:31; John 3:15-21; 5:24; 11:25,26; 6:47; 7:38; Romans 3:26; 10:9-13) and NOT baptism. It says only "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that BELIEVETH NOT shall be damned."

The fact that "water baptism" is not a part of the gospel is plain for in I Corinthians 1 Paul says:

In the same chapter Paul says "I thank God that I baptized none of you...." (Does this sound like Paul believed water baptism was the means of salvation to you?) Then he says: "For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel." I Cor. 4:15

Although he baptized none of them, except Cripus, Gaius, and the household of Stephanas, he begat ALL of them through the gospel. It is ridiculous to say water baptism is a part of the gospel. True obedience to the gospel is "from the heart" (Rom. 6:17).

III. John 3:5 - "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

The phrase "born of water" is pulled out of its context and is used as a foundation for the heresy of "baptismal regeneration." In its proper context, being "born of water" is simply the first, or the natural, birth. Jesus is explaining to Nicodemus His statements in John 3:3 of "...Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus became confused and said, "How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?" Jesus further explains a man must be born twice - "of the water" (womb - first birth) and "of the Spirit" (spiritual - second birth). "That which is born of the flesh is flesh;" (womb - water - natural birth) "and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit" (John 3:6).

IV. I Peter 3:21 - "The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"

Peter says here "...whereunto even baptism doth also now save us..." and if this were all there were to the verse you could close this booklet and trust water baptism for your salvation - but this is not all the verse says! This verse is not only taken out of the context of the passage, but this phrase ("baptism doth also now save us") is often taken out of the context of the verse by those "bent" on having a part in their own salvation.

The context of the passage is the deliverance of Noah. Noah was one of the eight souls who boarded the ark when God sent the flood and destroyed the world. The scripture says these eight "were saved by water" (I Peter 3:20). Is this talking about water baptism for the remission of sins? Absolutely not! The water that saved them was a universal flood sent to deliver Noah from the ungodliness of the world. This is how they were "saved by water." These eight never even got wet!

The context of the verse says "baptism" is "the like figure." That is, it is NOT salvation - it is a figure of salvation. Water baptism pictures salvation, but it cannot save a soul. Someone who has believed on Jesus Christ should obey the scriptures and be baptized. This should be done because they have been saved (Acts 10:47), not because they want to be saved! Baptism is for a "good conscience toward God", and it is "not the putting away the filth of the flesh!"

Water baptism is like a wedding ring. A husband and wife are joined in the sight of God, and as a symbol of their union they may wear wedding rings. Water baptism is an outward symbol (figure) of the new life which has already taken place inside the repented sinner.

Chapter 5

There are SEVEN baptisms clearly set forth in the New Testament. There is only "ONE" baptism which will put a person "into Christ" (Ephesians 4:5). Here are the "seven baptisms" including the REAL BAPTISM:

1. I Corinthians 10:1-4 - The Baptism unto Moses before the law was given. This is the national baptism of Israel by aspersion - "through the cloud" in the sea.

4. Acts 2:36-38 - The Baptism of the remission of sins for the repented nation of Israel, after their crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

5. Acts 10:34-48 - The Baptism of the believer's testimony (following salvation) - death to self and risen to walk in "the newness of life."

The baptism which places a repented sinner "into Christ" is not water baptism! The Holy Spirit baptizes the believer into the body of Christ. It is a spiritual operation that regenerates the believer! When the sinner believes on Jesus Christ's finished work of atonement at the cross (death for sin, sins, and sinners), and His bodily resurrection for their justification, the Holy Spirit immerses that individual into the "death of Christ" and washes his sins away by the "blood of Jesus Christ."

What is the "washing of regeneration"?

The "true" baptism is the baptism by the Holy Spirit into Jesus Christ (NOT the baptism by a preacher into water!), and this baptism occurs when a person believes the true gospel of Jesus Christ!

7. Matthew 3:7-12 - The baptism of Judgement into fire. In this passage there are three of the seven baptisms mentioned - John's baptism, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and the baptism of unquenchable fire. The baptism of fire is to be cast into a literal lake of fire where there is weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth (Rev. 20:11-15; Mat. 8:12; 22:13; 24:51). All men are sinners (Rom. 3:23) and must be born again (John 3:7). The "new birth" is through a belief in the gospel - Christ's death for sins, burial, and resurrection (Rom. 1:16; 10:9-13). If a person rejects the true gospel of Jesus Christ by adding the work of "water baptism" to Christ's finished work, they are canceling out the grace of God (Rom. 11:6). Sadly, those who remain outside of God's grace (by blatant rejection of Jesus Christ or by adding works and refusing to fully trust Christ) will face the final baptism.

Jesus Christ said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" - He is your only hope. Face God without Him, and you face God without hope!
